The European buff coat is an item of leather clothing that was primarily worn by cavalry and officers during the 17th century, but also worn by a small number of infantry. It was often worn under armour. The buff coat was derived from the simple leather jerkins employed by huntsmen and soldiers during the Tudor period, these in turn deriving from the arming doublet. Buffer has released its first official app for the Mac today, bringing an easy way to add content to your Buffer queue right from the menu bar. Buffer already lets you share social media updates from multiple accounts at once via its web, iOS, and Android clients, but now you can do much the same via Mac OS X.

The app is quite simple in functionality, and doesn’t actually give you most of the features found on the full web interface. Sadly, it seems to be useless if you want to schedule your posts for specific times. But when you just need to add a new item to your Buffer, this quick menu bar icon lets you choose which accounts it should go to and send it away to your queue. Notably, you can in fact drag links and/or images to the icon if you wish.

According to the App Store description:

Any link, text, picture or video you want to share, just add it to your Buffer. Your updates will automatically be scheduled and spaced out throughout the day to post to your favorite social networks. Plus, any update can also be “posted now” inside the app.

Say you find 5 great articles and 2 funny images you want to share. If you post them all in a row, you might flood your friends and followers who are online – and totally miss those who aren’t. Instead, add these posts to your Buffer, and you’ll have great social updates for the next few days.

“Buffer for Twitter and Facebook” is free on the Mac App Store.

To configure the NAS device from an Apple OS:

  1. Boot the NAS device while it is connected to the router
  2. Access the settings of the router and look at the DHCP client list.
This will show the IP address the NAS device received or use the Buffalo NAS Navigator 2, which will show the IP address, the hostname, the firmware version on more info about your Buffalo NAS device.
  3. From your web browser, navigate tohttp://<ipaddress>, where <ipaddress> is the IP address that was assigned to the NAS device by the router.
  4. Login using admin as the username and password as the password. From there assign the NAS device a Network Name under Basic.
  5. To mount a share from the NAS device, navigate to Go->Connect to Server and enter <name> where <name> is the name of the NAS device.
This should display a screen to allow for mounting a share from the NAS device . Choose guest or enter no password if prompted.

If unable to do this, try using the steps below:

  1. Check the IP range of the network. In order to accomplish this, navigate to the Apple Menu->System Preferences->Network.
  2. Get the IP address range of the network being used by selecting the adapter being used to connect to the router (usually called Built in Ethernet for wired or Airport Adapter for wireless).
  3. Select theTCP/IP tab. Write down the IP address of the computer, the Subnet Mask, and the Router/Default Gateway.
  4. The user will need to make up an address to give to the Terastation based on this data.
For example, if the Router address is 192.168.0.1 and the address of the computer is 192.168.0.105, then the range is 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254, and the router is probably giving out addresses starting at 100.
It may be possible to give the TeraStation an address of 192.168.0.254 or 192.168.0.50 since it is unlikely that those will be given out by the router.

Changing the address of the computer:

  1. Choose the wired adapter and set it to Configure Manually.
  2. Enter the IP address of 192.168.11.100 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, disregard the other addresses at the moment.
  3. Plug the Terastation directly into the computer using Ethernet and start the initialization of settings.
  4. Open a web browser and navigate to 'http://192.168.11.150'.
  5. Log in with 'admin' and 'password' for username and password.
  6. Navigate to Network->IP Address Properties and disable Automatic via DHCP.
  7. Enter the IP address that was created, the subnet mask and Default Gateway(Router) address that was noted.
  8. Click apply and reconnect it to the router.
  9. Navigate back to Apple Menu->System Preferences->Network and set the adapter back to 'Configure Using DHCP' to get an address from the router again.
  10. To connect to the built-in share, navigate to Go->Connect to Server and enter the IP address that was created for the Terastation. This will display a fileshare mounting page.
  11. Choose guest or enter no password if prompted.

To access the settings from now on, open up a web browser and go to 'http://<ipaddress>' where <ipaddress> is the IP address that was assigned to the Terastation.
